On Friday night, November 22, 2019 at 7:00 p.m., Christ Episcopal Church of Woodbury will host Christmas Cheer: A Nordic Christmas Concert featuring the music of Chris Falteisek and Carol Moudry-Warnacutt.
Christmas Cheer will help get you in the spirit of the holiday season. The concert will feature traditional Christmas songs, Nordic Christmas favorites, some of Falteisek’s personal compositions, as well as a multi-media presentation of Falteisek's research on Nordic Christmas customs and traditions. While in Elverum, Norway in 2018, Falteisek had a music video recorded in the Elverum Church with his arrangement of “What Child is This”. The concert will include the premier of his music video.
Joining Falteisek for this one-hour concert will be flutist and vocalist, Carol Moudry-Warnacutt. Falteisek and Moudry-Warnacutt recorded their first album during the 1991 Halloween Blizzard. They performed in concert for several years and recorded ten albums together. Falteisek and Moudry-Warnacutt recorded Christmas Cheer together in 2018, and this concert will be the first time Falteisek and Moudry-Warnacutt have performed together in concert in over twenty years.
Chris Falteisek, a native of Prescott, Wisconsin, and resident of Hastings, Minnesota, started playing organ and piano for church as a 6th grader. He currently works as Minister of Worship/Music Director at Christ Church in Woodbury and is an accompanist at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Hastings and St. Thomas Aquinas Church in St. Paul Park. He has composed and recorded 17 albums. His musical performances have taken him to Sweden, Norway and around the United States. Falteisek’s musical style is eclectic and mirrors his love of various historical places and periods.
Carol Moudry-Warnacutt, originally from Apple Valley, now residing in Red Wing, began playing flute at age 11 and studied flute with Emil Niosi of The Minnesota Orchestra for several years throughout high school and college. An RN and a retired Firefighter by trade, she has always remained involved in music, having done numerous flute and vocal recordings and concerts with Chris Falteisek, as well as Wings of The Spirit, Windward, Fr. Michael Joncas (of On Eagles Wings notoriety), and liturgical composer David Haas. A former flutist with The Dakota Valley Symphony and vocalist with Minnesota Valley Women’s Chorale, she now enjoys acting at The Sheldon Theatre, volunteering and singing with The Red Wing Singers where she will be in concert on December 15 at 4:00 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church in Red Wing.
Refreshments will be served following the concert. No tickets are necessary. A free-will offering will be taken with all proceeds going to the musicians. Christ Episcopal Church is located at 7305 Afton Road in Woodbury. All are welcome!

The Scandinavian Festival of St. Lucia is the following week, but Sabylund Lutheran Church will celebrate it early this year with this free concert which is open to the public. Michelle Sieben will join Falteisek as a featured soloist during the concert. Swedish refreshments will be served following the concert.
Chris Falteisek, a composer and recording artist, recently spent a two-month sabbatical in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Lapland. While in Sweden he was able to spend time on a genealogy pilgrimage with his cousins; Christy Larson Berger and Kim Larson Brunkow, both of Durand. The concert will feature some of Chris' personal compositions and Nordic favorites, as well as multi-media presentations of Falteisek's Nordic trip and a photographic history of Sabylund Lutheran Church. Falteisek's grandmother, Mayme Steien Dobos was from Stockholm, Wisconsin. His ancestors, Carrie and Eric Steien, as well as Sven Moen Christianson are buried in the Old Sabylund Cemetery.

This Nordic Notes concert is being hosted by Falteisek in memory of his friend and local historian, Dick Darsow, who played a major role in preserving Hastings' rich history. During the concert, a free-will offering will be taken to help support the Hastings Pioneer Room. The Pioneer Room is the City of Hastings historical records room located on the first floor of Hastings City Hall. It contains information on the history of Hastings, Dakota County, local businesses, biographical and genealogical records on residents, along with a historic photo collection. The Pioneer Room is staffed on Wednesdays (9:00-4:00) by volunteers Cindy Thury Smith and Shirley Dalaska.
The concert will be approximately 75 minutes in length. Falteisek's albums, including his latest release, "Nordic Notes," will be available for sale. Refreshments will follow the concert. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church is handicap accessible.

On Thursday, July 16, 2009, my cousin, Spc. Daniel Paul Drevnick was killed in a missile
attack near Basra, Iraq. Dan's visitation was at the Wullff Funeral Home in Woodbury
on Friday, July 24, 2009. Dan's funeral was celebrated at King of Kings Lutheran
Church in Woodbury on Saturday, July 25, 2009. The outpouring of love and support from
the community, military and church was overwhelming.
